After a considerable amount of reverse engineering I was able to extract almost anything that he wanted, except for some games that simple weren’t on the CD-i disc for space reasons. It turned out that many audio and video assets where in “processed” CD-i formats and thus not readily extractable using standard tools. We did some back and forth on it and agreed on a price after I did some analysis of the game. He had already gotten out most of the videos using online tools but wanted more. Unfortunately quality of the PC audio files left something to be desired and it was only available in English. They were basing the Android version on the PC version, using the existing open-source ScummVM game engine. They were developing the 20th Anniversary Edition with the IP licensed from Trilobyte and he was looking for someone to extract good quality voice tracks, and also German and French versions. In July 2014 I got contacted by someone from MojoTouch, an Israeli game company. The World of CD-i talked to him in exclusivity about his work for The 7th Guest – 20th Anniversary Remastered. Head over to the official site for more information and the download.Ĭopyright 1999 - 2021 just found the right guy to make this job… Luc Rooijakkers, ex CD-i programmer from SPC Vision company. These ROMs are copyrighted and cannot be freely redistributed, but you can easily obtain them via the serial port of a physical CD-i player using the provided CD-i Link program. In order to actually run CD-i software, the emulator needs copies of the CD-i system ROMs. The unlimited edition does not have these restrictions. The time-limited edition emulates for at most three minutes between CD-i player resets and does not support permanent saving of NVRAM data such as game highscores and other CD-i title settings. The CD-i emulator program (cdiemu) provides a fairly complete emulation of the hardware of an actual physical CD-i player.

A new emulator has been released, simply named 'CD-i Emulator', unfortunally the emulator isn't free, but there's a time-limited demo to try. The Philips CD-i system has pretty much been unemulated this far, but now things is changing. Posted by 06:04 PM CET | Comments: 0 | Philips CD-i
